TIPS USEFUL FOR BLANK DVD’S

The wide range of disc format is covered under the term Blank DVD. Before buying blank DVD’s, you should always check for brands that are recommended by the manufacturer of the writing hardware. There are some of the formats listed below. Blank DVD has two main formats DVD-R and DVD+R.

The most widespread format in many countries that has increased its grip in the market is DVD-R. It has a data storage capacity of 120 minutes of DVD video, which means up to 4.7 G.B. DVD-R is a standard disc. It is not a re-writeable disc, so once the disc is full you cannot erase and re-record on it. DVD-R is pronounced as ‘DVD minus R’ and DVD+R is pronounced as ‘DVD plus R’.

DVD-R and DVD+R are similar to each other. Both possess the same quality like appearance, capacity and performance. Even DVD+R are a write once disc. For DVDs, the “R” that is found in DVD+R and DVD-R stand for recordable. The double layer version of DVD-R and DVD+R is now available in the market. If you are looking for DVD-R then you can term it as Dual layer DVD as this version is referred with this same term. It is known as dual layer DVD because, this DVD contains two layers on the disc which doubles the recording capacity from 120 minutes to 240 minutes means about 8.5G.B.

You cannot judge your blank DVD on its capacity, as the maximum data that you can write on blank DVD is around 4.3G.B even though it shows the capacity of 4.7G.B. Blank DVD disc has “a writing speed”. 16X rating is found now on many of the blank DVD, this shows the “write speed” of the disc. This means that your disc will be written in 7 or 10 minutes respectively. Many of the older drives are not able to match up the speed of newer disc. Therefore, write speed can be a confusing subject.

Keep your drive firmware up to date as it is very important in blank DVD recording. So if your drive works well then your disc will also work well. As drive is responsible for ‘write speed’ of the Blank DVD’s therefore, it is better to get it checked without wasting your time on blaming the disc. However, all drives recognize media code, which is contained by every disc in order to burn it. So, if a new media code is released, your drive will not have the info it needs to burn it successfully.

So make your firmware up-to-date and choose perfect blank DVD media to make your important data look more neat and clean. Make use of high quality blank DVD’s. As middle range DVD’s are ok for general use, never go for cheap blank discs, as price stands nowhere as against quality. Go in for the latest variety of DVD’s like the waterproof blank DVD-R media, it is inkjet printable to the focal point.
